Back as a video game,
four kids are suck into the Jumanji game as avatars. They will need to work
together in order to survive Jumanji and complete the game.
--------------------------------------------Some Spoilers-------------------------------------------
Almost a sequel/reboot to
the original 'Jumanji' (1995) film. It felt like 'Breakfast Club' meets
'Jumanji' in a way since the four high school kids who are different from each
other get detention and that's how they find the video game 'Jumanji'. It was a
cool twist where the Jumanji, board game, adapts to the new age of video games
and transforms into one.
Dwayne Johnson, Kevin
Heart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan did a great job in this film with the
comedy line and action. I enjoyed how the characteristics of the four kids
transfer into the main cast which add to the comedy. Especially Jack Black's
character is a teenage girl, so it was fun to see the reactions of Bethany
through Jack Black. It was interesting to watch all the relationships between
the characters. I really enjoyed watching Martha and Bethany's relationship
work out and the way they support each other. Love the scenes where Bethany
teaches Martha the art of flirting and Martha's dance fighting.
There are a few sexual
jokes in the film that surprised me since there are kids in the theater, but it
is a PG-13 movie. Also, it seemed liked everyone enjoyed the joke since the
audience laughed.
The movie's theme is
about who you are and what you do in your life. Spencer talks about how it's
easier to act brave when you have more lives, but Fridge tells him how people
only get one life and takes risks to make the most of it. By the time they
defeat Jumanji, all the Avatar characters only had one life.
I noticed that they gave
the people who are known for their strength or looks receive the avatar that
are focus on intelligence, while the two known for knowledge are given strength
and looks.
A tribute to Robin
Williams' character from 'Jumanji' (1995) with Alex(Nick Jonas) lived in a hut
built by Alan Parish during his time trapped in the game. Once everyone goes
back to the real world, the four kids meet up with an older Alex; similar to
the previous movie when Robin Williams' character went back to his own
timeline. Colin Hanks plays the older Alex, but when I looked on IMDb they
don't credit him?
There is no ending scene
after the credits, you only hear the sounds of the Jumanji's drums playing
which hints that maybe there will be a future Jumanji movie maybe.
