After I watch a Film or a TV show, I always list the name and the
Director of the work. At the end of the year, I count them all to see how
many I've seen in that year. These Films or TV shows are my Top works
that I recommend.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Grand Budapest Hotel (Wes Anderson)
- Originally a novel, A Man
narrates the story about his days of working as a Bell Boy at The Grand
Budapest Hotel. The Bell Boy also talks about the Concierge of the hotel.
I love the Cinematography of the film along with the interesting Story
plot. I feel like the Film's humor depends on the person's taste in
humor. The Humor was delivered through dialogue and action. There
are a few scenes that might not be appreciated by some people. So, make
sure you look closely at the rating of the film.
Hyouka (23 episodes)
- If you enjoy School life dealing with Mystery, you'll enjoyed
Hyouka. I relate to the Protagonist who is extremely lazy and thinks so
much to get away from doing physical actions. It was a relaxing show that
had touching themes about life that you might enjoy. The animation was
beautiful in my opinion. Hyouka is about a High School Club where the
President is keen on solving anything that perks her curiosity. The
person who solves the mystery is always the Lazy Protagonist.
China's Elite Female Bodyguards (VICE)
-
Like the title, it was interesting to see how Women go through as training to
become a Bodyguard. You can find this video on VICE's Youtube Channel.
It is short, but interesting to learn about the Female Bodyguards.
VICE creates interesting videos that has a large range of topics.
Being Elmo: A Puppeteer’s Journey (Constance Marks)
- I cried a lot in this film. This Documentary is about the
Man who created Elmo and voiced him. It's about his history of becoming
interested in Puppeteer and his career leading up to Elmo. It is an intriguing
film in learning how Elmo became world known and the struggles to become
successful.
Under the Electric Sky: EDC 2013 (Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz)
- I did not expect for me to cry so many times while watching a
Documentary about EDC. This Documentary follows different people's love
for EDC and their history dealing with EDC. The people have emotional
attachments to EDC, which touched how this kind of event can aspire so many
people.
Zootopia (Byron Howard and Rich Moore)
- Zootopia talks about various topics that the world is dealing
with today, for instance, Race, Government, Police, and etc. The film's
plot is about a new Police Officer Rabbit who takes on a case of a missing
Ottor, with the help of a reluctant Sassy Fox. During investigation, they
are faced with the topic of Prey and Predator. It was fascinating how
they were able to show these topics through talking Animals and how it can
relate to today's society.
Red Riding: In the Year of Our Lord Trilogy
- I watched these films during my British Cinema class. Red
Riding is a trilogy base off of four novels. Thought provoking films that involved dealing
with Religion, Police, Social Class, and etc. The films are about the
killings of girls by the Yorkshire Ripper. Little girls go missing and
people believe it is the work of the Yorkshire Ripper, but that changes as you
go deep into the investigation. During the two films, you are always questioning
on who you should trust. It always keeps you questioning on what will
happen next. It is alluring to see everything come together. The
usage of Metaphor through Animals are shown throughout all three films.
They are emotional films, so be prepared.
Yondemasuyo Azazel-san (13 Episodes)
- About Detective Akutabe and his assistant Sakuma who solves
cases through using Demons. The main demon, Azazel, is a Lust Demon who
is comedic. The show has a comedy that can sometime be sexual, or poop
jokes. The way the characters interact with each other is comical in
their own way. It is an intriguing anime that might offend some people or
some people might love it. The show has a second season and an ova series
too.
One Punch Man (12 Episodes)
- One Punch Man, the strongest man who takes down his enemies with
only one punch, becomes depressed on not facing a worthy opponent who can take
more than just one punch from him. This anime shows a different side on what
a hero truly is, the world of One Punch Man has developed an organization where
it donates to Heroes. They rank Heroes depending on Strength and
Intelligent. These ranks and donations changes the way what Heroes are,
like the citizens are paying to be protected, and there are weak heroes
compared to strong heroes. One Punch Man turns into a different Hero that
we are not used to seeing in more famous Hero movies. Cool animation and
fight scenes. Also love the soundtrack of the show.
Ma Vie en Rose (Alain Berliner)
- A French Film about a young
boy who does not feel like a boy. The film is about a young child who
does not feel true to themselves and how the parents react to this. It
has Comedy aspect in the film, but also Emotional scenes on what a Family is
and about Parents relationship with their children. I cried so many times
watching this film, it is a good age of coming film dealing with family also.
Accepted (Steve Pink)
- A High School Senior does not get accepted to any University, so
what does he do? He makes up his own University, but the University gets
becomes known by other Students who did not get accepted also. So the
Protagonist has to deal with all those people who were not accepted. The
film shows how College is not for everyone and does not help people form into
the person they want to be in life. I feel like this is a good film for
young people to watch if you feel like college isn't for you.
Yuri On Ice (12 Episodes)
- An anime about Men's Figure Skating. It is about a figure
skater name Yuri who lost during a big competition, after that he becomes
broken. After returning back to his home town, he tries to gain back his
love for figure skating. Yuri skates a routine from his favorite famous
Ice Skater, Victor. After a video of Yuri skating that routine becomes
popular online, later on Victor actually travels to Japan to become Yuri's
Coach. It was a calm, relaxing anime to watch. It is fun to watch the
figure skating routines and the relationship between the different skaters
along with their dreams.
Moana (Ron Clements and Don Hall)
- Moana is the daughter of a Chief who loves her Island, but also
loves the Ocean. The film's plot is alluring to watch. You'll learn
characters' background and realize why that character acts the way they do.
I cried during many scenes dealing with Moana and her grandmother, which
reminds me a little bit of my time with my grandma. It is a nice film to
watch with family and understanding who you truly are as a person. It is
a nice story to watch about a culture you don't see well enough in other films.
Rogue One (Gareth Edwards)
- Yes! 2016's Star Wars film, Rogue One. I went into the
movie excited to see Donnie Yen and Forest Whitaker and ended up loving all the
cast members! The film has a diverse cast that can help represent more
people. More people can connect to the characters of the film.
Rogue One takes place right before Luke's story. The cinematography
was captivating in showing the world of Star Wars. You don't really have
to have seen the other Star Wars films, but there are snippets of things that
you might understand if you have seen the other films. Not seeing the
other films does not really hinder your experience watching the film, I feel.
Character interactions are probably my favorite parts in films and this
film is one of them.
